Richard Perry: A Great Man, One of Heaven's Ambassadors (January 28, 1931 - January 22, 2024)
We announce Richard Dickie Perry peacefully transitioned to heaven on January 22, 2024 just days before his 93rd birthday. Richard was a great man on this side of heaven and one of Heaven's ambassadors. Richard leaves behind a legacy marked by steadfast faithfulness, unwavering dedication to family, and a commitment to serving others. He was born in Columbus, Ohio on January 28,1931 to Eloise Baker. Richard was the epitome of strength, love, and resilience. His life was a testament to the scriptural edict to fight the good fight of faith, while embodying perseverance and devotion in every endeavor.
Richard's life was a beacon of hope and inspiration. He served the church with distinction. His service and dedication to the church included serving as chairman of the deacon board, trustee, Sunday school teacher, choir member, and pulpit committee chair. His unwavering faith and deep spiritual commitment were the cornerstones of his life. Beyond his spiritual endeavors, Richard was a formidable entrepreneur. As founder of Perry & Watkins Transportation and RDP Properties, Richard showcased an unmatched work ethic and business acumen. Richard's entrepreneurial spirit was not just about achieving personal success but also about creating opportunities and uplifting those around him.
Richard's service in the Army, including two years of active duty in the Korean War and four years in the Reserve, reflected his deep patriotism and bravery. His military tenure was a demonstration of his character and commitment to his country.
Above all, Richard was a family man. He was a loving and devoted husband to his beautiful wife, Delois, of 68 years. Together, they lovingly parented Kevin, Doretta, and Roxanne. One of Richard's greatest joys was celebrating the success of his offspring's. He encouraged his family to work hard and to get their education. He attended every graduation of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and he rewarded all of them for their hard work. Richard lit up for all of his grands and allowed them to speculate who he viewed as his favorite. There seemed to be a close race between Peaches (Amanda), Z (Azziah), and Big guy (Jacob). Richard modeled a standard of excellence and expected greatness from all of his kids.
Richard's departure leaves a void in the lives of those he touched. He was preceded in death by mother, Eloise Baker; daughter, Roxanne (Lamont) Perry-Kennerly; brother, Earl Baker II; and sister, Lucinda Mix. His legacy of love, wisdom, and guidance lives on through his family, who revered him and will continue to be guided by the values he instilled.
He is succeeded in death by his devoted wife, Delois Perry. His legacy lives on through son, Kevin (Rosalind) Perry; daughter, Doretta (Unice) Perry-Rice; Grandchildren Amanda (Daniel) Perry-Washington, Austin Kennerly, Shavara (Paul) Rice-Johnson, Cameron Kennerly, Shane (Angelica) Rice; Great-grandchildren, Kimani Washington, Azziah Washington, Jacob Johnson, Eleanor Johnson, and Koby Johnson. Richard is also fondly remembered by his incomparable nephew, Brian K Davis; niece, Nicole Carter; Nancy's Girls: Prixy, Boobedoop, and Edna; brother-in-law, Marvin Mix; sisters-in-law, Valerie Baker, Angela (Donald) Davis-LaFollette, and Tracy (Erwin) Raphael along with numerous other family members and friends who will continue to uphold his extraordinary life and values.
Richard Perry's earthly journey may have concluded, but his spirit, teachings, and love remain a guiding light to all who had the privilege of knowing him. Rest in peace, Richard Perry, a true ambassador of heaven on earth, whose legacy will forever be cherished and remembered.
