Richard E. Purman of Hartford Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 14th, 2024, at the age of 89.
Richard was born December 12, 1934, in Good Hope, Illinois, to Harry A. and Ruth M. (nee Ervin) Purman. Richard was united in marriage to Jeanne L. Sargent on September 11, 1955 at the First United Methodist Church in Galesburg, Illinois. On September 11 of this year, Richard and Jeanne celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary.
Richard was a dedicated and proud employee of the J.C. Penny company for 42 years serving as store manage in New Hampton, Iowa and Hartford, Wisconsin until his retirement in 1994.
Throughout his adult life he was an avid gardener growing a variety of fruits and vegetables which he enjoyed sharing with family and friends. He was also a painter and avid reader, a trait he acquired from his mother, an elementary school teacher.
Later in his career and into retirement he continued to enjoy gardening as well as hunting and fishing with his sons.
Richard was a devoted and caring husband, father and grandfather. He will be dearly missed by his family.
Richard is survived by his loving wife Jeanne L. Purman; sons Mark, Tim (Shari), and Aaron (Amie); grandchildren Caitlin (Bryan) Driver, Ben (Leigh) Purman, Katherine (Sam) McCollum, Alyssa (Seth Dorsey) Purman and Josh Purman; and 2 great-grandchildren; siblings Judy (Brownie) Tracy, and Bonnie Swanson.
Richard is preceded in death by his parents Harry A. and Ruth M. Purman; and 5 siblings.
A private graveside service will be held.
