Richard Emery Rejer, 90, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away on January 19, 2025. He was born on April 26, 1934, in Detroit, Michigan to the late Irma and Chet Rejer.
Richard grew up on a farm in Lakeville, Indiana. He attended Lakeville High School which had a small graduating class of thirty-four. He loved his horse and all animals, especially his Collie dogs. Richard had a sister, Kay, who predeceased him. He grew up among his grandparents and many wonderful aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Last November, he celebrated 72 years of marriage to Gloria. They met at a barn dance in Mishawaka, Indiana, when they were fifteen and sixteen years old. Richard spent the majority of his career as a service sales manager for Johnson Controls.
Richard was an active member of his community. He served as president of his neighborhood HOA board for the last twelve years. He was an active member at Holy Spirit at Geist Catholic Parish and enjoyed participating in his Thursday Bible Study Fellowship. Often you could find him completing his Bible Study homework when you went for a visit. Richard was an avid sports enthusiast. He enjoyed golfing and attending his grandchildren’s sporting events and performances. Richard was also a long-time Colts fan.
Richard is survived by his loving wife, Gloria; three children, Deborah Miller (Donald), Randy Rejer (Julia), and Richard Rejer, Jr. (Kristi); eight grandchildren, Kimberly, Kevin (predeceased), Kyle, Beth Anne, Brian, Matthew, Alex, Andrew, Evan, and Abby (predeceased); nine great-grandchildren, Collin, Christian, Alexis, Jaxson, Eleanor, Evelyn, Charlotte, Cora, and Margot.
His devotion to his Lord and his family will not be forgotten. Richard will forever be our family’s patriarch and will be greatly missed.
The family would like to give their sincere thanks to Richard’s doctors, nurses, and staff at St. Francis Hospital for all their care and concern.
Visitation will be held at Holy Spirit at Geist Catholic Parish 10350 Glaser Way, Fishers, IN 46037 on Tuesday, January 28 at 9:30am. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at noon. After the Mass, a luncheon will be held in the Parish Social Hall.
Richard’s final resting place will be at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery which will be held at a later date.
