Richard A. “Rick” Marlar, 72, of rural Wayland, passed suddenly from this life on Monday, September 29, 2025, at his home. A funeral service will be held on Monday, October 6, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Beatty Funeral Home in Washington, with Pastor Doug Tinnes officiating. The service will be available via Livestream at the Beatty Peterseim Facebook and YouTube pages. Burial with full military honors will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established for Turning Point USA.
Richard Allen Marlar was born on October 12, 1952, in Cincinnati, Ohio, the son of Charles and Marilyn (Matthews) Marlar. He served in the United States Navy as a submariner from 1970 to 1974. On October 25, 1986, he was united in marriage to Patricia J. “Patsy” Sayles in Milford, Ohio. Rick was a truck driver for Walmart for 24 years. He attended Good Neighbor Fellowship and was a member of the Appleseed Project. Rick was an NRA-certified gun safety instructor, a strong supporter of the 2nd Amendment, and taught classes on the Constitution. He loved boats, fishing, and being outdoors, and also enjoyed trips in the RV. Rick cherished the time he spent with his grandkids.
Survivors include his wife, Patsy of Wayland, three daughters: Joanna (Danny) Williams of Bethel, Ohio, Priscilla Marlar (Eric Brush) of Iowa City, Iowa, and Hannah (Dustin) Doyle of Davenport, Iowa; four grandchildren: Rachelle Boshears, Leilani Lalaga, and Cayson and Leah Doyle.
Preceding Rick in death were his parents.
