Flanner Buchanan - ZionsvilleRichard Malcolm “Dick” Rogers, age 92, passed away September 23, 2025 after a brief hospitalization. He was born January 27, 1933 to parents Manford and Wilma Rogers. A 1951 graduate of Monon High School, he was a two time basketball letterman. After serving in the Air Force he married Doris Hintz on August 28, 1955. He enrolled at Indiana University graduating in 1960 with a Bachelors Degree. His professional career began with Merchants National Bank and by 1970 was Vice President and head of the commercial loan department. In 1972, he went to work for Basic American Industries, handling all of the financing for their many ventures, and retiring in 2003. He and Doris had three children, Jerry Lee who died soon after birth, Michael Eugene, and Patricia Ann Rogers Douglass who died in 2016.
Dick was a long time member of the Downtown Indianapolis Lions Club, being very involved with the club - especially their vision screening for students in Indianapolis Public Schools. He was also a member of Zionsville United Methodist Church.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Manford and Wilma; siblings Max Rogers, Mary Rogers Kingma, and Wilford Rogers, in addition to Jerry and Patti. He is survived by his son Michael Rogers and wife Julie; son-in-law Peter Douglass; grandsons Malcolm Rogers and wife Katie, Joshua Rogers and wife Emma, Max Douglass and wife Abby, Benjamin Douglass and wife Maura and great grandson Warren Scott Douglass. Dick’s longtime special friend Mary Jeanne Metz also survives him.
Funeral service will be Friday, October 10, 2025, at noon with visitation from 11 am to noon at Zionsville United Methodist Church, 9644 Whitestown Road, Zionsville, IN 46077. Burial will follow at Bedford Cemetery, Monon, IN.
In lieu of flowers, Dick requested contributions be made to Lions Cancer Control Fund of Indiana, Inc. https://www.lionscancercontrol.org/
