Richard E. Rome

Richard E. Rome, a fixture in the lakeside community of Eastport, Mississippi, passed away at his residence on July 3, 2025. Born on April 6, 1942, in Memphis, TN, Richard was a carefree spirit whose zest for life resonated with everyone he met. He made a name for himself as a well-known self-employed architect and contractor, with his designs of hospitals, nursing homes, and commercial buildings being found throughout the Southeast. He also designed many local private homes and lake houses, leaving an indelible mark on the Pickwick area.

Richard was more than just a talented architect; he was an avid boater who found his joy gliding across the waters of Pickwick Lake aboard his beloved boat, "Skinny Dipper." Whether tied up in a cove with friends, SCUBA diving, or simply soaking in the sun, his love for the water was infectious. Richard was also a longtime member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary.

He will forever be remembered by his wife and love of his life, Alisa Vanderford Rome; two daughters, Melanie Jones (Jerry) and Holly Perritt (Ronnie); a grandchild, Jamey Jones (Allie); and his great-grandchild, Porter Jones. He is also survived by a brother, Ken Rome (Diane); a sister, Aleeta Wingo; a sister-in-law, Rhonda Tull; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred Milton and Mary Louise Alterbrandt Rome, and his brother, Alfred M. Rome, Jr.

Cutshall Funeral Home of Iuka, MS is entrusted with arrangements. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

As the sun sets over Pickwick Lake, we remember a man who lived life like he steered his boat: with courage, confidence, and an unyielding passion for adventure.
