- Age 87, passed away Sunday, December 3, 2023. Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Thursday, December 7, 2023 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Linden Chapel, 209 E. Broad St., Linden (A live Stream of the service will be available on Dick's obituary page at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com). Pastor Robert Lindsay officiating. Burial in Fairview Cemetery, Linden. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Thursday from 11:00 AM until the time of the service. Those desiring may make contributions to the American Heart Association.
Dick was born March 13, 1936 in Linden, the son of William Wayne and Mary Ellen (Hull) Sargent. He was a 1954 graduate of Fenton High School and he received an Associate Degree in Fire Science from Mott Community College. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served in the U.S. Navy Reserves for many years. Dick married Jerrell Ann "Jerrie" Wade January 19, 1957 in Orange, TX. He retired from the Hartland Community Schools and he had also been employed by General Motors. He was a member of Argentine Nazarene Church. He was a founding member and the first Fire Chief of the Argentine Township Fire Department. He was a former member to the Fenton Masonic Lodge and the American Legion.
Surviving are: his wife, Jerrell "Jerrie"; daughter, Sherry Keeler of Jackson; son, Richard Wayne Sargent of Flint; step grandson, Matthew (Mandalyn) Keeler of Norton Shores; brothers, Raymond (Carrie) Sargent of Chandler, TX and Gary (Kay) Sargent of Dallas, TX; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Kathleen Sargent; and son-in-law, Bruce Keeler. Tributes may be shared at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com.
