Richard Secor Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 25, 2026.
In remembrance of Richard "Dick" Secor of Spencerport, NY formerly of Ridgway. Dick lived a long, full life defined by quiet strength and a subtle sense of humor. On February 24, 2025, as the result of complications from injuries sustained in a fall, at the age of 89, he passed away peacefully, surrounded by the people who loved him most. Though his loss is deeply felt, his family takes comfort in the many accomplishments & memories he leaves behind.

Born on May 21, 1935 in Ridgway, son of the late Mrs. Elsie Zurfluh (Carlson) and Kenneth P. Secor. Dick grew up with the values that shaped him for the rest of his life-hard work, humility, and loyalty. He carried those qualities into everything he did, from his early years in trade school at the Williamsport Technical Institute at The Pennsylvania College of Technology to the various machine shops in Elk County, until relocating to Monroe County NY in 1977. He worked at Kodak for 25 years before retiring in 2005.

In his younger days, he loved roller skating, hunting, and target shooting-activities that reflected both his energy and his appreciation for simple pleasures. Later in life, he found joy in the small, everyday moments: caring for his beloved dog, Misty; recording family gatherings with his ever-present video camera; working on RC controlled aircraft and treating himself to ice cream, a favorite indulgence that always brought a smile to his face.

He was a father, grandfather, and great grandfather whose pride in his family was unmistakable. He is remembered by his children-Douglas, Donald, Sally, Rich, David, and Scott- and by grandchildren Kurt, Brittany, Jessica, TJ, Adam, Leah, Sarah, Zackary, Rylee, and great grandchildren Madison, Xander, and Jocelyn. Though he experienced the loss of his wife, Therese Schlimm, his daughter Nancy Ridge, his brothers Jerome and Kenneth, and his parents and stepfather Arnold Zurfluh he carried their memories with him always.

Those who knew Dick will remember him not only for the life he lived, but for the way he lived it-with patience, strength, and a quiet warmth. His legacy lives on in the stories shared at family gatherings, in the home videos he so faithfully recorded, and in the hearts of everyone who knew him.

A private memorial service was held. Family and friends will carry his memory forward with gratitude for the time they had with him.
