Richard Douglas Sharp, 77, was born on April 25, 1948, in Terre Haute to John Edward Sharp and Velma Jane Sharp.
Rich graduated from Southport High School and went on to earn his bachelor's degree from Purdue University. He went on to work in retail and commercial lighting and design. After retirement he enjoyed sharing his expertise while working at Sullivan Hardware.
Rich will be remembered for his generous, giving heart and his deep commitment to others. A natural mentor, he found great joy in guiding youth and encouraging those around him. Rich loved life and found pleasure in many things – golf, travel, directing theatre, and music – but nothing meant more to him than his family, especially his beloved wife, Jan, whom he truly adored. He was an active and devoted member of his home church and proudly involved with the Scottish Rite – Valley of Indianapolis, Englewood Masonic Lodge #715, and the Murat Shriners Club of Indianapolis. Rich’s legacy is one of service, creativity, and love. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Rich is preceded in death by his parents John Edward Sharp and Velma Jane Sharp. He is survived by his loving wife Janet, children Stephanie, Andrea (Jeff) Wolheter, and grandchildren Wesley, Ethan, Elizabeth, and Isobel.
Visitation for Rich will take place from 4:00-8:00pm with a Masonic service being held at 7pm on Friday, December 26, 2025, at Flanner Buchanan Washington Park East Funeral Home, 10722 E. Washington Park East, Indianapolis, IN 46229. Rich’s life will be celebrated at Linwood Christian Church on Saturday, December 27, 2025. There will be a short visitation, from 10:00-11:00am followed by a service. Rich will be laid to rest at Washington Park East Cemetery.
Donations in honor of Rich can be made to Linwood Christian Church, 4424 East Michigan Street, Indianapolis, IN 46201.
