Richard Shoemaker of Oakes, ND passed away October 18, 2025 at SMP-Health Maryhill Manor, Enderlin, ND.

He was born April 2, 1944 in Wellston, Ohio, the youngest of seven children to Thomas Nathan and Bessie (Smith) Shoemaker. He grew up and attended school in Wellston. Richard served his country as a fuel specialist in the U.S. Airforce from April 11, 1961 until his honorable discharge on May 31, 1981. While in the military, Richard was honored to receive several medals, badges, ribbons and awards. He lived in England, Greece, Okinawa, Thailand, Texas, Omaha and Florida while serving. After his military career, Richard drove truck for several years, worked as a security guard, and was employed at Walmart for 14 years.

Richard married Connie Mitchell September 26, 1972; they divorced June 7, 1991. On July 4, 1993, Richard married Katherine Lambert in Destin, FL. They later moved to Oakes, ND where they made their home. Richard enjoyed woodworking and gardening.

He is survived by his wife of 32 years Katherine; his children from his previous marriage, Taelynn Thompson and Vance Mitchell, Crestview, FL, Carol Riccoban, St. Barts Island, Thomas Shoemaker, Crestview, FL, April Woodman, Tulsa, OK and Richard Shoemaker Jr, Crestview, FL; thirteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Mary, and his siblings, Joyce Littlejohn, Patricia Fraley, Jean Ridgeley, Mona (Ruth) Bellamy, James Shoemaker and Thomas (Jack) Shoemaker.
