Richard Smith Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Smith Funeral Home-Keyser Chapel on Dec. 17, 2025.
Richard E. "Rick" Smith, age 67, passed away at his residence in New Creek, WV, on Sunday, December 14, 2025.
Rick was born on May 8, 1958, in Petersburg, WV, to Frances Jean (Michael) Bodiford of Quitman, Texas and the late Richard Smith.
Rick was a man of many talents and passions, carving out a successful career as a carpenter with Brevard Framing in Melbourne, FL. His skilled hands shaped not only the homes he worked on but also the lives of those around him. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1976 to 1978, instilling in him a deep sense of duty that he carried throughout his life.
An avid golfer, Richard often spent his free time on the green, taking solace in the rhythm of the game. He was also a keen observer of wildlife, finding joy in the simplicity of watching deer roam. His interest in metal detecting spoke to his inquisitive nature, always searching and discovering. Richard was a hands-on person, always ready to lend a helping hand, and he loved building, a testament to his love for his craft.
In addition to his mother, he leaves behind two children, Jennifer M. Daniel and husband Doug of Lexington, KY, and Bobby J. Smith and wife Ashley of Chesapeake, VA; four grandchildren, Kai, Devin, Dylan, and Dakota and three great grandchildren, Lennox, Layla, and Kenny. He is also survived by his sisters, Freda Alexander of Texas, Debra Smith and significant other Dale VanMeter and Vicki Smith and life partner Duck of Martin, WV, and Carla Noonan and husband Shaun of Wyoming; two half sisters, Tammi Pate and husband Matt and Leah Bright and husband Steve, all of Texas; two half brothers, Brad Bodiford and wife Wendy and Chris Bodiford and wife Kristin, all of Texas; his life-long best friend, Frank Butler of Florida, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Rick's life was filled with hard work, service, and love for his family. His legacy will live on in the hearts of those he leaves behind. His family and friends will remember his unwavering dedication to them, his infectious smile, and his undeniable zest for life. Rick was truly one-of-a-kind, and he will be deeply missed.
At the request of the family, there will be no visitation or services.
The Smith Funeral Home and Crematory, Keyser, is in charge of the arrangements.
