Richard Williams Soderberg

Mr. Richard Williams Soderberg, 95, of Salisbury, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 12, 2021, at Novant Health/ Rowan Medical Center. Mr. Soderberg was born on Aug. 27, 1926, in Philadelphia County, Pa., the son of the late Oscar Albert Soderberg and the late Edith Marguerite Williams Soderberg. Mr. Soderberg served in the U.S. Navy from 1944-1946. Mr. Soderberg married Betty ‘Bee' Jane Bauersfeld on June 11, 1946. He attended Yale and Princeton University's where he graduated with degrees in Chemical Engineering. Mr. Soderberg was elected a member of Tau Beta Pi Honorary Engineering Society and the American institute of Chemical Engineers. Mr. Soderberg was employed by E.I. du Pont de Nemours & Co. in Wilmington, Del. and Deepwater, N.J. for 33 years. He worked in research, project engineering and financial management. Mr. Soderberg was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and taught in the Martin Luther Sunday School class for many years. Mr. Soderberg enjoyed gardening, bridge, chess, golf, travel, family and friends and his many canine friends. Mr. Soderberg particularly enjoyed annual reunions with family members in many different locations, with the coast of Maine his favorite. In addition to his parents, Mr. Soderberg was preceded in death by his wife, Betty ‘Bee' Jane Bauersfeld Soderberg. Those left to cherish his memory are his two sons, Roger J. Soderberg and wife Alice of New York City, N.Y., and Eric W. Soderberg and wife Catherine of Salisbury. Daughter, Carol J. Witt and husband Phillip of Pratt, Kansas. Also, by granddaughters, Celeste Mayes and husband Paul of Asheville, Betty Jo Eisenhour and husband Brad of Stafford, Kans., and Dr. Virginia McNamee and husband Daniel of Charlotte; 13 great-grandchildren; and brother, Roger H. Soderberg and wife Helen of Spartanburg, S.C. Arrangements: A memorial service will be held on Dec. 29 at 10 a.m. at the Chapel at Trinity Oaks with pastor Brenda Bynum officiating.
