Richard Sparks Obituary

Born on September 4, 1945 in Mitchell County, he was the son of the late Henry and Mary Lee Biddix Sparks. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers; David, Danny and Kenneth and his sisters; Marietta and Patricia.
Richard was a member of the Lily Branch Baptist Church for fifty-eight years and served as a deacon and Sunday School Teacher. He was a member of the Mitchell County Gideons Camp. He retired from the Unimin Corporation after thirty-one years of service where he was the mine safety supervisor and trainer. After retirement, he continued as a safety training consultant.
He enjoyed fishing, spending time with his family and dogs, routine trips to Sam's Club and just 'loafin'. He got the most joy from handing out Gideon Bibles and telling folks about his Lord and Savior. He loved sharing his testimony and what a difference Jesus had made in his life.
Left to cherish his memories are his wife of fifty-nine years; Marilyn Morris Sparks, his daughters; Lori Jones and husband, Rick and Kristie Ollis and husband, Danny; his step grandson; Tucker Jones, his brothers; Jimmy Sparks and wife, Juanita and Dennis Sparks and wife, Della; numerous nieces, nephews, as well as great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be on Saturday, June 14, 2025 at 3:00 pm in the Chapel of Webb Funeral Home with the Rev's. Don Ford, Toby Crowder and Will Winters Officiating. Interment will be in the Lily Branch Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday, June 14, 2025 from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm in the Funeral Home Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to; Mitchell County Gideons Camp, P.O. Box 611, Spruce Pine, NC 28777
The family would like to a special 'Thank You' to a couple of people for the extraordinary care provided by Richard in the last few days of his life; close friend, Bettina Little and hospice nurse, Ciji Dellinger.
