Richard Stanback Obituary

Richard C. Stanback

March 25, 1957 - November 23, 2025

Nonesuch, Kentucky - Richard C. Stanback (Rick) of Nonesuch, Kentucky, husband of Robin Stanback, passed away Sunday, November 23, 2025 at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky. Born March 25, 1957 in Royal Oak, Michigan, he was the son of the late Harris I. and Lois H. Stanback.

Rick was a man who wore many hats – a computer engineer, a HAM radio enthusiast whose call sign was N4WCQ, an aerophile, a farmer, and a tinkerer in all things electronic. Most of all he was a man who adored his family. One of five siblings, Rick grew up connected to them and their friends. He and Robin, his wife of 45 years, continued that connection with people starting with their two children, Nathan (Cassandra) of Georgetown, Kentucky whose son Henry was his grandfather's best exploring buddy, and Danielle of Lexington, Kentucky, their friends, and a number of international interns who came to work for Kentucky Equine Research. His varied interests also brought many more people into their lives.

Rick traveled the world with his wife and some of their dearest pals. There was always a bucket list with another destination waiting to be explored. His curiosity and his wry sense of humor made every trip an adventure.

A celebration of his life will be held at the Holly Hill Inn in Midway Kentucky on December 4th between 3:00 p.m and 5:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in Rick's memory may be made to the ARRL Spectrum Defense Fund that helps to protect the air waves for amateur radio operators or to a local animal shelter of your choosing.

I have known the Stanback boys from when I was about 5. Bill was my first friend that my parents did not introduce me to. Rick was not far behind. Rick and Brad Waters were responsible for recommending me to Dr. Charles Knapp, a UK biomedical engineer professor for a job. That job changed my life. My life was much better because I knew Rick and not just because of the job. He will be missed.
