Richard Stoakley Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Holloway Funeral Home - Salisbury on Feb. 22, 2024.
Richard "Dick" Stoakley, born on July 26, 1931, in Laurel, Delaware. Richard was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He passed away peacefully in his sleep on February 20, 2024, at the age of 92, in Salisbury, Maryland.
Richard's early years in Laurel laid a strong foundation for a life characterized by hard work, service, and a deep love for his family. He was a devoted husband to his wife, Bevereley Stoakley, with whom he shared a lifetime of memories and unwavering support. He is survived by his son, Rick Stoakley (Brittany), daughters Dana Stoakley-Estrada and Dawn Stoakley (Steve Blum), grandchildren Dakota, Michaella, Bonnie, Dustin, and Mackenzie Estrada, and Paige Blum, brother-in-law Sammy Busick and sister-in-law Melba Ramsey. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmo and Nora Stoakley and sister Emma Jones and brother Sonny Stoakley.
Throughout his life, Richard was known for his skilled hands and analytical mind. As an electrician for Wicomico County Government, he earned respect for his intelligence and clean electrical work, and even wired the entire Salisbury Park Christmas displays. His career was punctuated by a sense of duty to his country, as evidenced by his honorable service as a U.S. Army veteran. Richard's commitment to his community was further demonstrated by his active involvement as a lifetime member of the Loyal Order of Moose, where he formed lasting friendships.
Richard's love for automobiles was more than a hobby; it was a reflection of his appreciation for craftsmanship and innovation. His dogs were a source of joy and companionship, always by his side and dear to his heart. Richard also embraced modern technology with enthusiasm, often found with his iPhone in hand, staying connected with loved ones and the latest news.
A dedicated NASCAR fan, Richard never missed a chance to cheer on his favorite drivers as they raced around the track. His loyalty to the Miami Dolphins was equally steadfast, and he relished every opportunity to watch their games, celebrating their victories and remaining hopeful through their defeats. Additionally, Richard's fascination with watches revealed his appreciation for precision and the beauty of a well-crafted timepiece.
Those who knew Richard will remember him as a handy man who could fix almost anything, a testament to his resourcefulness and ingenuity.
Richard's life was well lived. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him, but his spirit will live on through the memories he created and the profound impact he had on his family. As we say farewell to this remarkable man, we take comfort in knowing that he is at peace.
