Richard Stottlemyre, 79, of Unionville, Missouri, passed away at the Putnam County Hospital on December 21, 2022.
Richard Lee "Dick" Stottlemyre was born in western Putnam County on January 22, 1943, the son of Virgil and RoseAnna (Cullor) Stottlemyre. He graduated from Unionville High School in 1961. Instead of going on his Senior trip, Dick went on the wheat harvest that summer and worked from Texas to Canada. He married Georgie Peto on May 19, 1965, and he and Georgie lived and farmed in eastern Putnam County their entire life together. Dick raised cows and grain and also ran a bulldozer from 1964 until 2020. He and Georgie liked to travel in their motor home, especially to the western U.S. They once spent six weeks in Alaska. They often traveled in the company of dear friends Roy and Sharon Robbins.
Richard accepted Christ as Savior in 1977. He served the Lord faithfully at First Baptist Church in Unionville where he was a deacon and church treasurer for over 30 years. Dick once restored a couple of old tractors, but his greatest pleasure was spent in the company of his grandchildren whom he liked to take on rides in his side-by-side.
Dick is survived by two sons, Rick (Shawntelle) Stottlemyre and Rod (Maggie Courtney) Stottlemyre both of Unionville. His five grandchildren are Doyle Stottlemyre, Stacia (Jimmy) McGaughey, Adrianna (Dawson) Folsom, Alaina Stottlemyre, and Amy (Rodney Hamilton) Stottlemyre. His great grandchild is Deion Folsom, step great grandchild is Jake McGaughey, step great-great grandchild is Jake Wyatt McGaughey. He is also survived by two brothers, Virgil "Bud" (Darlene) Stottlemyre and Tony (Brenda) Stottlemyre, all of Unionville, and a sister, Mary Ann (Rick) Sparks of Centerville, Iowa.
Dick was preceded in death by his wife Georgie on November 26, 2021; his parents; and a sister who died in childhood, Lila Belle Stottlemyre.
Funeral services for Richard Stottlemyre will be at the First Baptist Church in Unionville at 11:00 am on Wednesday, December 28, 2022, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Unionville Cemetery.
Memorials may be made payable in lieu of flowers to the First Baptist Church and entrusted with Playle and Collins Family Funeral Home, 709 S. 27th St., Unionville, MO 63565.
