RUTLAND - Richard "Rick" Strand, aged 67, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 3rd, surrounded by his family. Born to Robert and Magdalena Strand on July 17, 1958, Rick was a proud graduate of Wachusett Regional High School and went on to study plastics engineering at Lowell University.
Rick had a love for music and a deep fascination with weather and the ocean. He played the guitar, composed music, and had many favorite bands. He spent countless hours watching storms, photographing sunrises, and enjoying the sky of blue and sea of green. He found a sense of freedom in sailing and boating, navigating the waters off Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Florida in his younger years and later, in Maine. A connoisseur of seafood, he had several seasons lobstering off New Hampshire.
He is survived by his wife, Jane; his mother, Magdalena; his daughters, Lauren and Holly; their husbands, Chris and Nick; and his grandchildren, Malcolm, Josephine, and Jack. He is also survived by his brother, Donald; and his sister, Lisa and her husband Jay.
Friends and family will remember his sense of humor, his passion, and the fierce independence that defined his life. As he sails on, we wish him "fair winds and following seas."
