Richard H. Strode, 85, of Browning, IL, passed away at 7:43 pm on Wednesday, April 3, 2024 at his home. He was born on Thursday, April 28, 1938 in Cuba, IL, the son of Robert and Cora (Sinnett) Strode. Richard married Judith Kite on December 14, 1957 in Cuba. Judith preceded Richard in death on January 10, 2015.
Also preceding him in death are his parents, grandson, Casey Kelly and son-in-law, Mark Fyffe.
Survivors include his two daughters, Michele Fyffe of Phoenix, AZ and Cheryl (and Richard Bigham) Strode of Beaverton, MI, his son, Michael (and Irma) Strode of Browning, IL, eleven grandchildren, Josh (and Jenn) Vijeh, Thomas (and Erin) Fyffe, Benjamin Fyffe, Angelia (and Ken) Harbison, Frances (and Jared) Landis, Shawn (and Sidney) Kelly, Jordan (and Kristin) Kelly, Jeremiah (and Karolyn) Nuhn, Kurtis Strode, Garrett (and Aleks) Strode, and Ashley Strode, twenty six great-grandchildren, brother, Larry (and Toni) Strode of Smithfield, IL, and two sisters, Carolyn Schnarr of Cuba, and Susan Clark of Urbana, OH.
Richard served in the United States Army Reserves.
He worked at Caterpillar as a Maintenance Machinist Journeyman for 38 years.
Richard loved to hunt and Fish. He enjoyed taking his grandchildren to hunt and fish. He even went along to every hunter safety course each grandchild had and took the course again with each one. He was also a member of a local hunting group and loved to hunt and spend time with the group during hunting season. He also loved to travel. Richard will be remembered by how selfless and caring he was. He was always willing to help someone out in any way possible. It never mattered what the need was.
Services will be held at 5 pm on Saturday, April 13, 2024 at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. Pastor Ben Murray will be officiating. A visitation will be held from 3 to 5 pm prior to the service. Cremation rites will be accorded after the service. Memorials may be made to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
