Richard L Stuckey

Richard L. Stuckey, 82, of Kearney, Missouri, passed away on March 11, 2026, at Oak Pointe of Kearney.

Richard was born on March 25, 1943, in Lathrop, Missouri, to Walter and Bernice Stuckey. He grew up on a dairy farm, where he developed a love for the outdoors and a strong work ethic. An excellent athlete in many pursuits, including basketball and tennis-always trying to beat Wayne Walker-he also enjoyed gardening, hiking, snow skiing, and bowling.

He married Sandra L. Teal on July 23, 1967, in Harrisonville, Missouri. Together they lived in Liberty before settling in Kearney, sharing a life full of family, laughter, and memorable adventures.

Richard's career began in the petroleum industry in Colorado with Phillips 66. After completing his training, he returned to Liberty to work for Phillips 66, eventually taking ownership of Brookview 66 gas station in 1969. In June 1976, he entered a partnership with Dallas Wilson in Excelsior Springs, operating Accurate Alignment for a year and a half until Dallas bought him out in January 1978. Richard then closed Brookview 66, worked at Fisher Electric, and built his own shop-Stuckey Service Center-in Kearney, which he owned and operated until retiring. Known for his excellent service, loyalty to customers, and welcoming atmosphere, Richard could often be found in the shop with his loyal partner Harvey, listening to Elvis, sharing stories, and enjoying good company.

Deeply committed to his community, Richard served as a reserve police officer and a Boy Scout troop leader, mentoring young people and sharing his values.

Richard's friends and family knew him for his sharp intelligence, kindness, and hardworking nature. He had a playful side and a humble spirit that left others smiling. He loved fast cars, traveling-panning for gold in Colorado, fishing in Canada and Branson, and hiking to the top of the Great Sand Dunes-and making lasting memories with loved ones. He enjoyed playing cards with spirited competition, listening to music, and sharing stories. Richard lived by the principles, "Do something worth remembering," and "Values are like fingerprints. Nobody's are the same, but you leave 'em all over everything you do."

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Bernice Stuckey; brothers Robert (Bob), Jim, and Donald (Donnie) Stuckey; and sister Marjorie Vanzant.

Richard is survived by his loving wife, Sandra; daughter Kristen (John) Heinrichs; grandchildren Hunter Nugent and Drake Peters, great-grandchildren; as well as many brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews, and a wide circle of friends and family who cherished him.

Visitation will be held at Hidden Valley Funeral Home on March 28, 2026, at 12:00 p.m., with services following at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to ACG Hospice.

Richard's life was marked by love, laughter, hard work, and devotion to family and community. He also had a special love for peanut butter and honey. He lived in a way that left a lasting impression on all who knew him-a life truly worth remembering.
