Richard Keith Summers

RICHARD KEITH SUMMERS, known affectionately as Ricky, passed away on Monday, December 11, 2023, at the age of 65, at Hospice Memorial Hospital in Charleston, WV. Surrounded by his loving family, he succumbed to complications arising from a long courageous battle against the aftermath of a stroke.
Ricky was born in Charleston and his roots were firmly planted in Elkview, WV, where he spent his formative years. He was a 1977 graduate of Herbert Hoover High School.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy Donald Summers and Phyliss Wehrle- Summers-Burdette of Elkview.
A passionate outdoorsman, Ricky found solace and joy in nature. His love for fishing and off-the-grid camping defined his adventurous spirit. Ricky was also an avid NASCAR fan, finding excitement by cheering for the legendary Jeff Gordon from his favorite recliner. Professionally, he dedicated his time and skills to Standard Laboratories, where he worked as a coal technician.
Left to cherish his memory are his children with his former wife, Rhonda Glass: Rachael (Lynn) Smeltzer of Parkersburg, WV, Regan (Chuck) Storey of Ipswich, MA, and Ryan (Caroline) Summers of Denver, CO. Ricky is also survived by his brother, Greg (Linda) Summers of Olean, NY; grandchildren, Millie and Riley Smeltzer of Parkersburg, Kora Summers of Denver and Charlie Storey of Ipswich; uncle, Donny (Dreama) Wehrle, and aunts.
Ricky's laughter was infectious, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of his family and friends. Though he will be deeply missed, his spirit will continue to live on in the cherished memories of all who were fortunate enough to know him.
Funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, December 15, 2023, at Barlow Bonsall Funeral Home, with Pastor Christina Miller officiating.
Visitation will begin one hour prior at the funeral home.
