PEABODY – Richard A. Svenson, 90, of Peabody, loving husband of Carol (Krohn) Svenson, died peacefully, Saturday, October 19th, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Boston, he was the son of the late Sven and Siri (Larson) Svenson. He was raised and educated in Arlington and was a graduate of Arlington High School, Class of 1952. After graduation, Richard attended the Wentworth Institute in Boston studying Mechanical Engineering. He worked for many years at Dennison Manufacturing Company in Framingham and went on become the purchasing manager for Lytron in Woburn. He loved that job and the friends he made during his tenure there.
While Dick enjoyed his work life he also made the best of his off time with many outdoor pursuits. In younger years he enjoyed camping at Camp Calumet in Ossipee NH and hiking the White Mountains with family and friends. He enjoyed downhill and cross-country skiing, kayaking and biking and rollerblading the Lexington Bike Path. He went on to buy a sailboat and sailed the New England coastline with many friends from the Jubilee Yacht Club.
In addition to his love of the outdoors Dick was the cook in his family and experimented with many cuisines for family, friends and the Scheller Farm hunting clan. He also loved to tinker in his workshop making small furniture for his family and teaching his grandchildren.
In his aging years he followed YouTube sailors to experience more ocean adventures and became an avid fan of world soccer.
In addition to his wife Carol, with whom he shared 66 years of marriage, Dick is survived by his children, Kristine A Svenson and her husband, Pierre Richard of Salem, NH, Richard A Svenson and his wife, Ellen of East Aurora, NY, and Erica Venuti and her husband Mark of Cape Coral, Fl, his sister, Sonia Scheller and her husband Arnie of Wentworth, NH, his grandchildren, Rachael, Eric, Lia, and Andre, his great-grandchildren, Fiona, Max, and Theo, and his nieces and nephews, Charlene, Charles, Jessica, and Matthew.
Richard was predeceased by his parents, Sven and Siri (Larson) Svenson, brother, Kenneth Svenson, sister, Sandra Longberg, and his grandchild Alex.
Dick will be remembered, and dearly missed, by many as a fun, kind and dedicated family man, devoted father, brother and friend.
