Richard Gordon Thompson of Davin, WV Richard Gordon Thompson, 67, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 18, 2016, leaving from CAMC, Memorial Division. He was born on March 19, 1948 at Logan, a son of Harold Gordon Thompson of Davin and the late Ruth Spencer. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Luther and Vernie Thompson, two brothers-in-law, Ed Kessler and Mike Christian; two sisters-in-law, Sandra Johnson and Patricia "T.C." Thompson. Richard was a 1966 graduate of Man High School and a veteran of the United States Army, serving in the Vietnam Conflict. A devout Christian, Richard was a member of the Accoville United Methodist Church, where he taught Sunday School and Wednesday night Bible Study. He also gave of his time and talent freely to help keep God's House in good condition and was considered the right hand man of the church. Richard, with the help of his Dad, was an avid gardener and generously shared his bounty with his family, friends, and neighbors. Not only did he plant seeds in the ground, he planted spiritual seeds in the hearts and lives of others. Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 48 years, Andrea Booth Thompson; his father, Harold G. (Wanda) Thompson; daughter, Rebecca (Kevin) Mays; son, Richard "Richie" Gordon (Amber) Thompson, II; granddaughter, Kaitlyn Jewell Mays; grandson, Jaxon Parker Thompson; granddaughter expected to arrive in June, Paisley Brooke Thompson; brothers, H. D. Thompson and Butch and P. J. Hall; sisters-in-law, Betty Kessler, Donna (D.J.) Gollihue, Wanda Christian, and Alice (Jon) Perry; many special nephews, nieces, cousins, church family, and a host of other relatives and friends. Richard will always remain in our hearts and will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew him. Funeral services will be held at 1p.m. Sunday, February 21, 2016, at the Accoville United Methodist Church with Rev. Norman Harvey and Brother Kenny Bevins officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens at Godby. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service on Sunday. Pall Bearers will be Kevin Mays, Jon Michael Perry, Rick Thompson, Frankie Johnson, J. R. Thompson, David Gollihue, and John White, III. Honorary pall bearers will be the men of the church. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations may be made to the Accoville United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 150, Accoville, WV 25606. We appreciated Richard for everytime he called and checked on Charlie. For all He did at church. We at present all so close like a family. We were blessed to have Richard as our friend. We have already missed him but we have wonderful memories. The many times he taught the word, and all times we have fellowship ed together. We loved Richard, he was a good man. We pray that God gives the whole family comfort and knowing Richard has received his eternal home...that is what we are all working for. We love you Lynn and the family. If we can help in any way let us know. God bless and comfort you.
