Richard Lamonte Torrence passed away at Trinity Oaks Assisted Living on September 4, 2025, at the age of 85.

He was born on January 21, 1940, in Cabarrus County to the late James and Ruby Torrence.

Richard graduated from Boyden High School in 1958. He served as a Marine from 1958-1962 in the 2nd Reconnaissance Battalion and the 2nd Marine Division in Vietnam.

From 1963-1983 he was employed by the Food Town/Food Lion as the Warehouse Manager. He was responsible for overseeing the move of the warehouse operations from the original location on Julian Rd to the current location on Harrison Rd. He also established the Loss Prevention Division. From 1983-1990 he owned and operated King Quik Mart in King, NC.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his daughter Katharine Darlene Torrence (Dec 2023); sister Carolyn Torrence Deadmon (Sept 1993); and brother James Franklin Torrence (Oct 2021).

Left to cherish his memory are his daughter Sandra Torrence Poole (Brian); granddaughters Katelynne Simpson (Lauren); Sydney Holmes (Roby); and greatgrandchildren Jace Simpson, Ellary Holmes, and Hally Holmes.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to any mental health facility in memory of Kathy Torrence.

A graveside service will be held at 2:30 pm on Monday September 29, 2025, at Salisbury National Cemetery, 501 Statesville Blvd, Salisbury, NC 28144 with military honors.
