In Memory of Richard "Dick" Turner
Born: June 17, 1938
Passed Away: October 26, 2023
Location: Fort Gratiot, Michigan
Richard Turner, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, left this world on October 26, 2023, in Fort Gratiot, Michigan. His passing is mourned by those who had the privilege of knowing him and celebrating the wonderful life he lived.
Dick, as he was affectionately known to his family and friends, was a man of memorable character and warmth. He was born on June 17, 1938, and his life was a testament to the values of love, laughter, and friendship and family.
Dick was married to his first wife, Cynda Turner, for 20 years, and together they built a family filled with unity and love. They are survived by their four children, Mark and his partner Anthony, Kristine, Scott and his partner David, and Michelle and her husband James, who reside in both Michigan and California. His three cherished grandchildren, Dallas, Nicklaus and Brady, will continue to carry his spirit forward.
In addition to his life with Cynda, Dick was married to his late wife, Dianna, for 29 years. He is survived by her daughter, Debbie Moss, and her husband, George II, as well as their children, George III and Erin.
This extended family circle showed the strength of his bonds and the depth of his love.
Dick had a zest for life that was infectious, and he had a profound passion for various activities that brought him joy. Golf, tennis, boating, and spending quality time with friends were some of his greatest pleasures.
Dick lettered in 3 sports in high school. He was famously known for his athletic prowess in football, but then you would learn that he could pitch no-hitters in baseball. He was a gifted athlete and had an extremely competitive spirit in sports that resulted in a scholarship to Albion and Central Michigan University- he attended Central. He won the Robinson Tennis Tournament and was inducted into the Port Huron Sports Hall of Fame. Later in life, he was best known for his extraordinary skills in boat
docking and could often be found steering his boat with precision and flair- truly a unique experience for all!
However, it was his laughter, jokes, and his ability to light up any room with his humor that will be his most enduring legacy. Dick's infectious smile and warm-hearted nature endeared him to all who were fortunate enough to be in his presence. His genuine love for life and his family was evident to anyone who had the privilege of knowing him. Dick's favorite song was Frank Sinatra's, "I Did It My Way". He lived his life in that vein and to the very end.
In memory of Richard Turner, let us celebrate a life well-lived and honor the legacy of love, laughter, and friendship he leaves behind. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, and his memory will forever be a source of inspiration and joy.
As we say our final goodbyes, let us remember the laughter, the love, and the enduring spirit of Dick Turner. May he rest in peace, knowing he brought happiness and warmth into the lives of those he touched.
Special thanks are extended to Dr. Sommerville, Dick's faithful nurse, Jodi, and special friend and caregiver, Shannon Riehl, for their unwavering support and care during his final days. Your dedication and compassion brought comfort to Dick and his family, and for that, we are eternally grateful.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, November 9, 2023 at 6:00pm in the Jowett Funeral Home - 1634 Lapeer Ave., Port Huron. The memorial visitation will be from 2:00pm until time of service at 6:00pm.
