Obituary
Richard Charles Umlor, age 86, of Grand Rapids, Michigan passed away peacefully on 4/3/2023. He will be missed by all that knew him. Richard was born on May 19, 1936 in Conklin, Michigan. He helped with the family farm "Umlor Orchards", farming peaches with his dad, Edmund. Richard proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1959 on active duty as a radio operator, serving overseas in both Italy and Rome. He then served another 4 years in the reserves. Upon honorable discharge he received the Good Conduct Medal.
Richard made his living as a fruit farmer, farming primarily apple orchards on The Ridge. He enjoyed his work and was considered an expert at what he did. He had a great eye for scouting the orchards. He was a member of the Apple Pomsters.
Richard was predeceased by his parents, Edmund John and Dorothy Eva Umlor, sisters Phyllis (Jerome) Gross and Joan Hubert, and his second wife Jackie (Zahm) Umlor, who he loved dearly. He is survived by his siblings Barb (Ray) Miller, Marilyn "Ikie" Klein, and David (Joanne) Umlor; his 3 children, son Douglas James Umlor, daughter-in-law Barb, son Steven Edward Umlor, daughter-in-law Jeanette, and daughter Theresa Marie Comeau, son-in-law David. Also survived by his grandchildren Sara (Jon) Chaney, Linda Umlor, Paul (Jess) Umlor, Sarah (fiance Joe) Rasch, David (Kate) Comeau, Zac (Kimi) Comeau, Nic (Emily) Comeau, and Katie Comeau; great grandchildren Maddie, Gabe and Ben Chaney; Layla, Olive and Redding Pardo; Ivan and Henry Umlor; and Sadie Comeau and another future great grandson Comeau due in August.
Richard was a quiet, caring, and supportive father. Dad, you are now at peace, but will live forever in our hearts.
A memorial Catholic Mass will be held on April 28, 2023 at 11:00 AM at St. Anthony of Padua Parish in Grand Rapids, MI for family and friends. The family welcomes messages/memories in the guest book online at www.ofieldfuneralhome.com.
