Bethany - Richard L. Van Son, 68 of Bethany passed away on Friday, (December 12, 2025) at United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia, following a lengthy illness.

Mr. Van Son was born August 7, 1957 in Batavia, a son of the late Donald and Jo Ann (Patterson) Van Son.

Rick was an old soul and had a passion for helping others - especially those older than himself. He could often be found volunteering his time with the Genesee County Office of the Aging, delivering Meals on Wheels, or visiting residents of East Side Nursing Home in Warsaw during the early 2000s. Rick loved his family deeply and had a special place in his heart for his nieces and nephews.

Surviving are his brothers, Stephen (Susan) Van Son of Webster, Timothy L. (Debbie) Van Son of Conway, South Carolina, and Christopher (Betsy) Van Son of Attica; an aunt, Carole (late Don) Pope of Overland Park, Kansas. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Along with his parents, Rick is reunited in death with his nephew, Nicholas Van Son.

Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Friday (December 19, 2025) from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Marley Funeral Home, 135 Main Street in Attica. Rick's funeral service will immediately follow visitation at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Rev. Bill Hockey will officiate. Burial in West Middlebury Cemetery will be private.

Flowers are gratefully declined. Those wishing to honor Rick's memory may do so by making a memorial contribution to Gateway Home, 91 Main Street, Attica, New York 14011.

Rick requested all who attend his services to please come dressed casually, and wear your favorite band t-shirt.
