Obituary published on Legacy.com by Merkle Funeral Service, Inc. - North Monroe on Mar. 23, 2026.
Richard Alan Vincent was born on February 26, 1948, in
Detroit, Michigan. He was one of two children born to the union of Alfred C. Vincent and Joyce (Roose) Vincent. He attended Allen Park High School and graduated with the class of 1966. Richard joined the United States Air Force in September of 1967 serving proudly as a sergeant until he received an honorable discharge in December of 1969.
In 1972, Richard married the love of his life, Carin Frances Naru, beginning a lifelong partnership filled with a devotion to family and shared memories. They welcomed their only child, a son Terry, on November 16, 1976. Together they built a home where kindness, generosity, and quiet strength were always present.
Richard was known to be a very kind and helpful person. Soft-spoken by nature, he was the type of individual willing to do anything for anyone. He had a lifelong passion for working with his hands. Whether helping a neighbor or repairing something around the house,
Richard found joy in being useful and caring for others. He loved woodworking and tackling home projects, always finding satisfaction in fixing, building, and improving things. After retiring from Home Depot, where he worked for more than a decade, he continued using those skills by doing home repairs for members of a friend's church community.
An outdoorsman at heart, Richard enjoyed fishing at Point Mouillee and Sterling State Park with Carin, Terry, Brett, and Dylan. During Terry's childhood there were many family vacations spent "up north" at Houghton Lake. Some of his favorite memories were hunting with his father and their dogs-his Brittany Spaniel, Ginger, and his father's dog, Diamond. He also had an English Springer Spaniel named Scooter who, while not a hunting dog, was dearly loved. Richard also had a special relationship with his "granddoggos" whom he helped take care of, and spoiled just a little, while his son and daughter-in-law were at work.
Richard had many hobbies that brought him happiness throughout his life. In the 1970s, he enjoyed racing cars at Detroit Speedway and proudly owned a 1967 Chevelle Super Sport. He also looked forward each year to attending the Frankenmuth Auto Show, where he enjoyed seeing the many cars and familiar faces year after year. Later in life he could often be found sitting on the couch with chips and dip watching NASCAR.
Richard was an avid sports fan. He enjoyed watching baseball and other local sports, as well as watching Terry and then his grandchildren play sports throughout the years. He loved history, spending many hours watching historical movies.
Richard cherished being a grandpa and loved spending time with his grandchildren as often as possible. Especially after the passing of his beloved wife Carin, being with his family and enjoying family dinners together provided him with a sense of comfort. Richard Alan Vincent, age 78 of
Monroe, Michigan passed away unexpectedly at home on Tuesday; March 17, 2026. His passing was preceded by his beloved wife: Carin Frances Vincent; his parents; a brother: Jack L. Vincent; and a daughter-in-law: Kimberly Marrs- Vincent.
To cherish his memory, he leaves his son: Terry (Bree) Menzies-Vincent and four grandchildren: Dylan (McKenzie) Vincent, Brett (Lindsey) Vincent, Lily Menzies, and Brennan Menzies. There will be a celebration of life held at The Westfield Activities Center in the Fireplace Room on April 26, 2026 from 1:00pm - 4:00pm located at 2700 Westfield Rd.
