Born on the last day of 1929 in Pierre, South Dakota, Mary was the beloved daughter of William S. and Minnie (Schlomer) Smith and the youngest sibling to Kate, Louise, Sam, and Hugo. Her early years in Pierre were filled with the love and camaraderie that only a large family can provide.

A proud graduate of Pierre High School in 1949, Mary's youthful exuberance and intelligence shone brightly. She met Dale Vincent, the man who would become her partner in every sense of the word. Their love story was one for the ages, beginning when Dale returned from his service in the army. They were united in marriage on October 13, 1956, and thus began a journey of shared dreams and mutual support.

Mary's professional life was marked by a long and distinguished career with the State of South Dakota. Starting as a Clerk Typist on September 16, 1960, her dedication and work ethic saw her rise through the ranks, eventually retiring as a Staff Assistant in the Motor Vehicles Division of the Department of Revenue. Her colleagues would remember her as a pillar of reliability and kindness.

Outside of work, Mary and Dale were truly inseparable, sharing a love for the great outdoors. Whether camping, traveling, boating, fishing, or snowmobiling, they embraced life with gusto. Their passion for adventure was matched only by their love for family gatherings, where they could often be found surrounded by loved ones, sharing stories over a cup of coffee or a delicious meal.

Mary's life was one of connection and joy, and she leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. She is survived by her sister-in-law Linda Johnson, a host of beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who felt like family. Preceding her in passing were her husband Dale, their infant son Dennis, her parents, her siblings, and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Faulkton Senior Living Center for their compassionate care of Mary in her final years.
