Richard "Rick" Lee VonHagen, 76, of Billings, MT, formerly of Fargo, ND, passed away peacefully on September 21, 2025.

Rick was born on March 3, 1949, in Fargo, North Dakota, the son of Vernon VonHagen and Verlen (Burtell) VonHagen. He grew up in Fargo surrounded by a big family, strong values, and the North Dakota outdoors that would shape many of his lifelong hobbies.

In 1967, Rick proudly enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, where he served until 1970. During his service, he was deployed to Vietnam as a helicopter crew chief. He carried the discipline, grit, and sense of brotherhood he learned in the Marines throughout his life.

On April 7, 1973, Rick married the love of his life, Carrie Bendickson, in Fargo. Their marriage was built on devotion, humor, and hard work, and together they raised two children, Ann and Lee. Family was always the center of Rick's world. He cherished his role as husband, dad, and later as "Grandpa," and he never missed a chance to share his love with those closest to him.

Rick lived in Fargo until 1998, when he and Carrie moved to Billings, MT, where they made their home. Over the years, he worked with Robert Gibb & Sons in Fargo, as well as Chief Construction and Western Municipal in Billings. Known as a steady worker and loyal friend, Rick earned respect both on and off the job site.

Outside of work, Rick had many passions that filled his life with joy. He was an avid fisherman and hunter who loved the peace of being outdoors. He took pride in his garden, enjoyed cooking and sausage-making, and always cheered on his Minnesota Vikings-through good seasons and bad. Traveling with Carrie and spending time with his children and grandchildren brought him his greatest happiness. Rick also had a soft spot for animals, especially his dogs, who were his faithful companions over the years.

Rick was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and Verlen; his nephew, Tony Mykland; brother-in-law, Kevin Muscha; and his father- and mother-in-law, Herbert and Lillian Bendickson.

He is survived by his loving wife, Carrie; daughter, Ann (Shawn) Vasicek; son, Lee (Barb) VonHagen; grandchildren, Madison and Zachary Vasicek; sisters, Marge (Mike) Crawford, Mary (Don) Mykland, Marty Muscha, and Marvel VonHagen and partner Lionel Milstead; brothers, Blaine, Pete (Sarah), and Tom VonHagen; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends who will miss him dearly.

Rick will be laid to rest in Casselton, ND. Service details will be announced at a later date.

Rick lived a life of loyalty, humor, and love-a man proud of his service, devoted to his family, and always happiest with a fishing pole in hand, a dog at his side, or a grandchild's laughter filling the room. More than anything, he was our rock-the steady presence who held our family together, and whose love and strength will guide us always.
A graveside service will be held at the Casselton Cemetery in Casselton, North Dakota, 9th Avenue South, Casselton, ND 58012 on October 4th, 2025 at 1:00 pm.
