Richard K. Walters, known affectionately as Rich to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on August 30, 2025, in
Keansburg, New Jersey, the town he had called home since the tender age of eight. Born on October 24, 1950, in Brooklyn, New York, Rich's early years were filled with the hustle and bustle of city life before moving to the quieter streets of Keansburg.
Rich's life was one of dedication and service, both to his family and his community. He was the beloved husband of Rhonda (nee Schork) Walters, with whom he shared 47 cherished years. Together they raised a son, Stephen, who, with his wife Kristen, continued the family legacy in Middletown. Their daughter, Casey Walters, was another source of pride and joy in Rich's life. He also leaves behind a sister, Laura Walters of Keansburg, who will miss him dearly. Rich was predeceased by his parents, William and Jane Walters, as well as his brothers, Kerry and William Walters. His memory will be treasured by his two loving grandchildren, Evan and Lexi, who he cherished the time with them. The conversations between them brought him the most joy. His face lit up every time he seen them, and a close-knit circle that includes numerous nieces, nephews, in-laws, cousins, and extended family members.
Rich's work ethic was as strong as his sense of duty. He spent many years with General Motors in Linden before taking to the road with Roadway Trucking Local 701 as a truck driver. After 20 years of dedicated service, he retired but continued to share his passion for driving by joining Helfrich Bus Company as a bus driver for an additional 12 years.
His commitment to his community was evident in his long-standing involvement with the Manning Place Fire Co# 1, where he joined in 1974. His leadership and dedication were recognized when he became an Department Chief in 1990, a role he held with honor and distinction.
Rich's interests were as varied as they were passionate. An avid fan of the Mets and the Giants, he enjoyed the thrill of the game and the camaraderie of fellow fans. His love for cars led him to many car shows, where he appreciated the beauty and craftsmanship of classic and contemporary models. Camping was another favorite pastime, allowing him to enjoy the great outdoors and create lasting memories with family and friends.
Above all, Rich will be remembered for his immense love for his family. He cherished every moment spent with them, whether it was a quiet evening at home or a large family gathering. His warm presence, hearty laugh, and generous spirit will be sorely missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
As we bid farewell to Richard K. Walters, we celebrate a life well-lived, a man well-loved, and a legacy that will continue to inspire those he left behind. His journey on earth has ended, but the memories he created will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to cross paths with him. Rest in peace, Rich, until we meet again.
