Richard Watson, a devoted educator, veteran, and community leader, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on February 1, 2025. Born as the oldest of seven children to Martha and Richard Watson, he lived a life defined by service and dedication to his family, his country, and his community.
Richard served with honor in the Arkansas National Guard and the U.S. Army, where he was an instructor and platoon sergeant. His leadership and mentorship skills carried into his 30-year teaching career with the Panhandle School District, where he inspired countless students in agriculture, horticulture, plant science, health, biology, consumer education, and mathematics. He served as the school's FFA advisor guiding and mentoring many students as well as the girls' softball coach where he was affectionately known as RAW (his initials).
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Richard was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. He and Judy built a life centered on love and family. He was a proud and supportive dad to Shelby, Blake, and Kyle, always offering guidance and encouragement. His family was his greatest joy.
Richard never missed an opportunity to share stories, offer wisdom, or cheer them on in their pursuits. His legacy of love and devotion will forever be cherished by his family.
A respected leader in the professional community, Richard served on numerous boards, including IAVAT, IVA, NVATA, and the FFA, holding multiple leadership positions. His dedication extended beyond the classroom to his local community, where he served as an elder and church board member, town board member, county fair board member, and 4-H board member.
He made a lasting impact on young lives as a little league baseball coach for 22 years and through his support of the Boy Scouts. His commitment to service continued as Kiwanis board president, always leading with integrity and care.
Richard is survived by Judy, his beloved wife of over 58 years; his children Shelby, Blake, and Kyle; his cherished grandchildren William, Alexandra, Kyra, Cale, Kegan, and Reid; and his great-grandchildren Arthur and John. He is also lovingly remembered by his sisters Lois, Kay, and Doreen.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Martha and Richard, and his siblings Kathy, Raymond & Terry.
Richard's life was a testament to the power of service, kindness, and unwavering dedication to his family, his students, and his community. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered for the countless lives he touched.
Memorials can be made to the Lincolnwood High School FFA chapter or the Raymond-Harvel Ambulance Service.
A private Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date.

My condolences to Judy and the entire Watson family. Mr Watson was an outstanding teacher who had a lasting effect on so many of his students including myself. He not only taught you skills, but more importantly life lessons. He was one of a kind. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time.

Dear Shelby. Your father was always so proud of you and rightfully so. He was a dedicated educator and ran an exemplary ag/FFA program. Give my regards to your mother who also was a wonderful teacher. Blessings. Ed Allen, Panhandle Supt 1987-92

So many good memories with the FFA organization in high school and then the little league baseball team and him has coach.
A little rough and tough exterior but a heart of gold. I´ll never forget Richard Watson.

Maytag and I traveled many miles together in support of the IAVAT. He served as an inspiration to me and proud to call him friend. My deepest condolences to the family and Judy!
