Cheryl Diann Hampton, 76, of Waggoner, passed away Saturday, November 15, 2025, at St. John's Hospital in Springfield. She was born in Taylorville on August 14, 1949, a daughter to Paul and Betty (Oliver) Hoffmeister. She graduated from Taylorville High School, then attended Lincoln Land Community College. She and Timothy Hampton were married on November 25, 1983; he survives.

Within her career, she worked in her family-owned bait shop Mantell's. She was a chef and caterer at her restaurant, The Uptown Café, at Creative Catering, and Triple H Treats. She served her community via the library and ambulance board and served as an election judge. She worked on the Irish Days centennial committee board. Cheryl was a dedicated member of the Waggoner Centennial Players. She researched and worked with the Illinois Museum Research Center and its Discovery Dig Site. Cheryl was Farmersville's Citizen of the Year in 2003. She loved to garden, craft, cook and was an avid reader. She loved to take care of her friends, family and community.

In addition to her husband, Cheryl is survived by:

1 son, Michael (Jolene) Lamb, of Taylorville

2 daughters, Jennifer (Scott) Hutchens of Taylorville and Nichole Hampton of Pittsboro, NC

5 grandchildren, Ashley Lamb, Rachel Elisabeth, Emillee Diann (Nic), Lane Maxwell, and Abby Marie

1 great-grandchild, Lilly Cogland

1 brother, Mark (Peggy) Hoffmeister

1 sister, Tresa (Mitch) Mansfield

1 aunt, Donna Beaman

She was preceded in death by her great-grandparents, Bud and Elsie Mantell, her parents, Gene and Betty Hoffmeister, her brother Michael and sister Juli Hoffmeister, and her best friend Mindy.

A Celebration of Life is planned at the Waggoner Building in Waggoner on Sunday, November 23, 2025, from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. Memorials may be given to the Farmersville & Waggoner Ambulance Service and the Farmersville & Waggoner Library.
