Bonnie Hampton Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Smoky Mountain Cremations and Funeral Service on Mar. 17, 2026.
Bonnie Ruth Ledbetter Hampton, 73, of Waynesville, passed away on Sunday March 15, 2026, at her home, surrounded by family. She was born to the late James "Jay" Ledbetter and Margaret "Evelyn" Hendrix Price, on December 22, 1952, in Haywood County, NC.

In addition to her parents, Bonnie is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Tim "Goob" Hampton; one brother, Samuel "Sammy" Ledbetter; a stepfather, Jess Price, and a stepmother, Frankie Guy Ledbetter.

Bonnie was a lifelong resident of Haywood County and dedicated approximately twelve years to Southwestern Child Development, where she worked as a certified educator. Her care and passion for children were instantly evident in her work. Above all, she cherished her family and was a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother. Bonnie enjoyed cooking and baking and was especially renowned for her chicken liver and chili dishes. She was a self-sufficient woman in many ways and canned her own vegetables. In her down time, Bonnie loved working on jigsaw puzzles and crossword puzzles. She also liked fishing in Lake Junaluska and tending to her flower beds, especially her beautiful rose bushes, when she was able.

Bonnie is survived by two sons, Ray Shuler and his wife, Amy, of Somerville, TX, and Shane Shuler and his wife, Tabitha, of Waynesville; a daughter, Missy Shuler and her special friend, Jason Hyatt, of Waynesville; a bonus-daughter, Cindy Hunter and her husband, Jeff, of Waynesville; one brother, Perry Ledbetter, of Waynesville; three grandsons, Levi Russell, Michael Winters, and Colby Price; five granddaughters, Paris Shuler, Peyten Shuler, Lexus Hall and her husband, John, Shyann Price and her fiancé, Kade, and Sienna Shuler; and several nieces, nephews, great-grandchildren, and cousins, including Theta Webster.

A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.

The Family would like to extend a special thanks to Four Seasons Hospice and Palliative Care for their excellent care over the last few years.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Bonnie's honor, to Four Seasons Foundation at https://fourseasonsfdn.org/ways-to-give/give-today/
