Walter Ramsey Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Smoky Mountain Cremations and Funeral Service on Mar. 16, 2026.
Walter "Doug" Ramsey, 82, of Maggie Valley, went home to be with the Lord March 15, 2026. Born on April 21, 1943, in Haywood County, he was the son of the late Clyde and Mattie Rich Ramsey.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Gary "Butch" Ramsey, Jimmy Ramsey; a daughter, Sherry Moore; and a son, Dale Cagle.

A man of simple pleasures, Doug was a lifelong member of Victory Baptist Church. He had a deep love for his family, his dog Weebie and above all, his faith in God. He found joy working as a mechanic, spending his days around cars. An avid reader of the Bible, letting his faith guide him. Doug took great pleasure in maintaining his yard, keeping it in great condition.

Left to cherish his memory is his children Marlene Ledford (Gary), Terisa Jones (Jason), Terry Ramsey, Gary Ramsey, Chris Ramsey (Christina). He is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 11 great- grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild; and a son in-law Billy Moore.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday March 20, 2026, at Victory Baptist Church with Reverend Jerry Nelson officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 pm prior to the service. Burial will follow at Rich Hill Cemetery.

Smoky Mountain Cremations and Funeral Service of Maggie Valley is caring for the family and the online register is available at www.smokymountaincremations.com.
