Richard Dale Weatherford, a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, was born on February 29, 1952, in McCamey, Texas, to Raymond David Weatherford, Sr. and Martha Evelyn (Eaton) Weatherford. He peacefully left this world on May 6, 2025, leaving behind a rich legacy of love and craftsmanship in Eastland, Texas, where he made his home.
Richard's journey through life was marked by his unwavering passion for his work as a fabricator at Kohler, where he honed his skills in welding, tinkering, and woodworking. His hands were instruments of creation, and his mind, an ever-curious haven for knowledge, especially in astronomy. Richard found immense joy in the simple pleasures of life-including his beloved dog, Brandi, and cat, Meredith-and in nurturing his interests in science fiction, particularly the adventures of Star Trek and classic sci-fi tales.
On February 16, 2002, Richard married Sheryl McWhorter at Corinth Baptist Church in Eastland, Texas, uniting their lives in a bond that radiated warmth and companionship. Together, they blended a beautiful family. Richard is survived by his devoted wife, Sheryl of Eastland; his son, Kevin Weatherford of Brownwood; and his daughters, Rhonda Kurtz and husband, Steven of Sachse, Shanna Stoddard and husband, Zachary of Venus and Jennifer Hendricks and husband, Doug of Eastland; nine grandchildren, Alexander Kurtz, Brennan Godwin, Makaelin Godwin, Piper Stoddard, Tanner Hendricks, Jason Jones, Spencer Hendricks, Kiera Hendricks, Greyer Hendricks and eight great-grandchildren. He will also be deeply missed by his siblings: Gerry Forgerson, Larry Weatherford, Nancy Wattenburger, Jimmy Weatherford, and Cindy Vick, also Judy Weatherford the mother of Kevin and Rhonda and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Richard cherished every moment spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought immeasurable joy to his life.
In honor of Richard's remarkable life, funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 10, 2025, at Edwards Funeral Home in Eastland at 2:00 PM with Jim Wright officiating. Friends and family are invited to join together in remembrance and celebration of Richard's life during the visitation, which will begin one hour prior to the service at 1:00 PM.
