Richard Weislogel Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Edder Funeral Home, Inc. - Girard on Dec. 15, 2023.
Richard Carl Weislogel, 87, of Albion Pa., was taken into the arms of our Lord Jesus on Tuesday, December 5th after an extended illness. He was born May 31st, 1936 at a family home in Fairview, Pa.
Richard's fondest childhood memory was being with his father, Otto Weislogel at the roller skating rinks which led to him being the best Roller Skating waltzer and choice lead for couple skates.
He enlisted in the US Air Force as a teenager during the Korean War and he was stationed in Lyon, France. With his high aptitude and proven skill in administration, he was assigned head clerk to the commander at headquarters. Richard was known for his sharp wit and sense of humor and the manner in which he made light of things in tense moments.
He attained his private pilot's license while stationed in France and was invited by the local French Pilots Club to join their organization. He was the first American to receive such an invite. Richard loved to recall flying low in his plane scattering the village livestock below and teasing the town locals.
Richard caught the eye of a beautiful French girl, Marie, with his sense of humor, good looks and graceful dancing. This was the start of a budding romance that would lead to a family of 6 children.
Richard attended Penn State Behrend University in Erie, Pa mastering accounting/bookkeeping and later attaining his real estate license. He had an interest in an array of career choices to include; Pa Gas Company, Greyhound bus driver, driving a brief time as a charter bus tour for Elvis Presley and also transporting prisoners to the Attica Prison in addition to tours up and down the NW region; Boron Interstate Inspection Station (Union City and Springfield), National Forge Steel Mill. In 1996, Richard retired from Pa Department of Transportation. While running his Boron Station he also opened a family style restaurant next door called the Farmer's Choice in East Springfield with Marie. While residing in Union City, Richard was the Director of the Jaycee's as well as leader of the Boy Scout Troup. Richard also enjoyed raising and caring for his bee hives while participating in the Edinboro Bee Keepers.
The farm he purchased to raise his children was also a big part of his life. It is there that he made ripples of love and life lessons that extended to his family, friends and community.
He was preceded in death by his former spouse, Marie Therese Weislogel, his son, Richard Carl Weislogel Jr, and his grandson, Gage Carl Walls.
Richard is survived by his 5 children, Donald (Robin), Daniel (Gina), Douglas, Diane, and Amee (Daneil) Weislogel. He is also survived by 4 grandchildren, Brooke (Keith) Ferguson, Evan Ragland, Destiny (Curtis) Vetter and Sarah Weislogel; 3 great grandchildren, Chase Edward Ferguson, Mia Marie Gert and Emerald Nicole Weislogel.
A private service will be held at the families convenience.
Funeral services are under the supervision of The Edder Funeral Home Inc.

Rich was such a kind, courteous, and thoughtful gentleman that always had a good story to tell. We worked together at PENNDOT and quite often he would bring the office staff delicious baked goods that "he found on the side of the road". Blessed to have known him. RIP Rich

So sorry to lovely family....and myself as well. Richard was a big part of my life during Farmers Tavern era....from country music to country dancing to country cooking to country hospitality to just good old joyous country living and everything about it. Oh yes, exceptional looking and tasting vegetables from his prized gardens...how about all the stray cats he fed.... We attended the PSU seminar on Pond Building....eventfully adding fish we caught locally to put into pond...We did the Bee PSU seminar as well......I´m sad....
