Richard Norman Westgate

Richard Norman Westgate, age 82, of Britton, MI, passed away on Sunday November 30, 2025 at Hickman Hospital with his family by his side. He was born on March 15, 1943 in Adrian, MI a son of the late Elwood Maynard and Florence Evelyn (Fritz) Westgate. On December 15, 1961 in Tecumseh, MI he married Dianna Kay Long and they have shared 64 years together. Richard worked for the Tecumseh Products as a tool maker for 36 years before retiring in 1998 and afterwards went to work for Chrysler for 10 years.
He was a member of the UAW Local 1435 and was a member of the Raisin Township Fire Department for 26 years. Richard loved fixing and building things and was a self-taught electrician. He loved teaching his family how to do many things and always expected excellence when doing so.
Along with his wife, Dianna, Richard is survived by his children, Nick Westgate, Amy (Tom) Horn both of Tecumseh, MI and Kelly Westgate of South Bend, IN; 6 grandchildren, Danielle (Jake) Cross, Nicholas (Brianna) Westgate, CJ (Sarah) Horn, Zachary (Bailey) Horn, Bailey Horn and Lucas Westgate; 5 great-grandchildren, Isaac, Avery, Adaline, Atlas and Cameron. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by two infant children, Beth and Todd and his siblings, Barbara, Beverly, Carolyn, Janice, Kenneth and Douglas.
A funeral service for Richard will take place on Saturday, December 6, 2025 at 12:00 pm at the Tecumseh Chapel of Handler Funeral Homes with Pastor Brandon Maybee officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 am until the time of the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Brookside Cemetery in Tecumseh. Memorial contributions may be made to the Raisin Township Fire Department.
