Richard Wikberg Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Veterans Funeral Care on Jan. 22, 2026.
Richard E. Wikberg passed away in St. Petersburg, FL on January 17, 2026, at the age of 76. He was a weather channel enthusiast, armchair comedian, and proud U.S. Navy veteran. Rick will be remembered as a witty, brilliant, courageous, and loving man who cared deeply for his family.

Rick was born on January 31, 1949, to Raymond and Jeanne Wikberg in Chicago, IL. He grew up as one of seven with 5 brothers (Ron, Michael, Jay, Clifford, and Greg) and one sister (Dinah). Growing up he was full of energy and the life of the party. He loved going to sock hops and watching his sister, Dinah, take the floor as a go-go dancer, attempting to imitate her without much success. As a kid, he would often initiate water fights in his neighborhood, both children and parents joined in, creating a tradition that lasted years to come.

In the lives of his children and grandchildren, Rick remained a steady presence until his final moments, imparting his humor, work ethic, and love for debate. Rick dove headfirst into fatherhood with more courage and patience than most others. He raised his children to value family, do the right thing, and remain curious. To his grandchildren, he offered endless wisdom, love, and support. He was happiest when surrounded by his family.

Starting at a young age, Rick exhibited a strong work ethic, working alongside his brother, Greg, before and after school. This followed him throughout his life. Eventually, he went on to serve his country in the Navy as an Aerographer's Mate, where he studied meteorology and developed a deep love for tropical climates. For many years he owned Wik & Associates, Inc., an IT and services consultancy, before moving on to work at the Bureau of Indian Affairs and finally the Department of Veteran Affairs.

Rick spent time living in Illinois, Colorado, California, Virginia, and Tennessee, experiencing much of what this country has to offer. In his later years, he made his way down to sunny Florida, his final resting place.

Rick is survived by his brother Greg Wikberg; children Kyle (Michelle) Wikberg, Ryan (Eloisa) Wikberg, Lindsay (Rick) Martin, and Meghan (Emily) Wikberg; grandchildren Samantha Wikberg, Matthew Wikberg, Jacob Wikberg, Madeline Wikberg, Rylie Wikberg, Avrum Lucks, Shya Lucks, and Grace Martin; and the many friends he made throughout his years.

He was preceded in death by his parents Raymond and Jeanne Wikberg; brothers Michael, Ron, Jay, and Clifford Wikberg; sister Dinah Adams; and son Brett Wikberg.

A committal service with military honors will be held on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at 10:00 am at Bay Pines National Cemetery, 10000 Bay Pines Blvd. Bay Pines, FL 33708.
