Richard Stillwell Tilley

Richard Stillwell Tilley, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 18, 2026, at Freedom Square Nursing Center in Seminole, Florida. He was born on October 27, 1933, in Landis, New Jersey, to the loving parents John and Helene (Shick) Tilley. His journey on this earth spanned 92 remarkable years, filled with love, faith, and dedication to family and community.

Richard's life was marked by his devotion to his loved ones. On April 16, 1955, he married the love of his life, Shirley A. (Hand) Tilley, at Peace Memorial Presbyterian Church. Their union was a testament to enduring love, as they shared 70 and a half beautiful years together. Richard took immense pride in his family, raising two wonderful daughters, Sheryl Tilley and Linda Falkner, alongside his son-in-law, Col. William C. Falkner, USAR. He was also a doting grandfather to two granddaughters, Heather (Falkner) Ouellette and her husband Leo Ouellette, and Holly (Falkner) Turner and her husband Sam Turner. Richard's legacy will live on through his family, who will forever carry his love in their hearts.

A proud veteran, Richard served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, demonstrating his commitment to his country. After his military service, he embarked on a successful career, working for Pinellas County government in IT services from 1960 until 1987, followed by a decade at Eye Site of Tampa Bay. Richard was not only dedicated to his work but also to his community. He was a devoted member of Starkey Road Baptist Church from 1985 to the present, where he served as a Deacon for three terms. His contributions included starting the church's tape ministry, ensuring that the messages of faith reached as many as possible.

Richard's hobbies reflected his vibrant spirit; he was an avid model railroader, a passion that brought him joy and creativity. He cherished vacations in North Carolina, where he could bask in the beauty of nature and spend quality time with his family. Above all, Richard's greatest pride lay in raising a God-fearing family, instilling in them the values of love, faith, and kindness.

Richard's journey through life was marked by an unwavering faith in God and a deep appreciation for his family and friends. As he faced an extended illness, the support of his church family and friends provided him and his family with profound comfort. In a heartfelt message, the family expressed their gratitude: "Thank you so much to the church family of Starkey Road Baptist Church. Your prayers have meant the world to us. And thank you to friends and family members who have come around us and held us up in prayer."

A funeral service to honor Richard's life will be held on January 26, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Sylvan Abbey Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Gideon's International or Tunnels to Towers, organizations that reflect Richard's spirit of generosity and service.

As we celebrate the legacy of Richard Stillwell Tilley, let us remember a man who dedicated his life to God, family, and community, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be profoundly missed, but his spirit will continue to inspire those he loved.
