Richard M. "Dick" Wilber, age 84, of Indian Land, South Carolina, passed away peacefully at his home on March 18, 2026, due to Alzheimer's.
Born on July 3, 1941, in
Burlington, Vermont, Dick was the son of Milton Wilber and Bertha Poirier. He graduated from Burlington High School in
Burlington, Vermont, in 1961. He began his career working at General Electric in
Burlington, VT before joining IBM Burlington, where he dedicated 30 years of service prior to his retirement.
Dick had a lifelong passion for hunting, with cherished hunting grounds throughout the United States and Canada. He was happiest at his beloved camp on Coates Island in Vermont-a place where he could relax, socialize, and happily "putter around" to his heart's content. Above all, Dick treasured time spent with his family, whom he loved deeply.
Known for his kindness and warm spirit, Dick was a man whose smile could light up a room. He had a gift for making connections and truly "never knew a stranger."
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers Robert Wilber and James Wilber.
He is survived by his loving wife, Gracellen Wilber; his children, Kevin Wilber, Keith Wilber, Kathy Shover (Brian), and Dawn Nelson (Paul); and his cherished grandchildren, Kiley Wilber, Kathryn Wilber, Shayne Wilber, Sara Gilbert (Johnathan), Jessica Baird (Mike), Ben Berger, Bethany Ledoux (Zach), Kennedy Nelson, and great-grandchildren Brynnlee Gilbert, James Baird, Lily Baird, and Oliver Ledoux. Also, his sister Nancy Millette (John) of Milton, VT, brother Tom Wilber of Milton, VT, and many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the family camp on Coates Island in Malletts Bay later this summer. A private family inurnment will take place at Malletts Bay Cemetery in Colchester, Vermont.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the
Alzheimer's Association or a
charity of one's choice in Dick's memory.
Dick will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved him.
