Richard Wiseman Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Memorial Services of Iowa at Ankeny Memorial (MSI) on Dec. 13, 2025.
Richard "Dick" A. Wiseman, 81, of Ankeny, Iowa, passed away peacefully on May 17, 2025, after battling ALS for the past 1.5 years.

Services to celebrate Richard's life will be held at Ankeny Free Church (118 NW Linden St., Ankeny, IA ) on Wednesday, May 28, 2025. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. with a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Todd Hessel will be officiating.

Born in Early, Iowa, on January 28, 1944, Dick was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Dick was a graduate of Paton High School and attended Iowa State University, graduating from University of Northern Iowa with a teaching degree. After one year of teaching, he found a different passion as a computer programmer and worked for Meredith Corporation for over 30 years. He then went on to work at John Deere for over 10 years.

Dick met his wife, Carol, on a blind date and was engaged three months later, married four months after that, and were happily married for 56 years. He was known for his gentle demeanor, kind spirit, sense of humor, dedication to family, and love of Jesus. He was faithful to his time reading the Bible every morning, going to prayer groups and being active with his church. He had an avid passion for bicycling and went on RAGBRAI multiple times, mostly on his favorite recumbent bike. He also loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchild.

Dick is survived by his wife, Carol; children, Jeff (Felicia) Wiseman of Altoona, and Jana (Kirk) Kislingbury of Bondurant; five grandchildren, Micalah (Jordan), Noah, Creighton (Melania), Nicholas, and Katelyn; one great-granddaughter, Ashlyn; and brother, Mike Wiseman of Virginia. Dick was preceded in death by his parents, Wendell and Margaret Wiseman.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Exodus51.org ministry in Richard's memory.
