Not sure of the team, but Rick was a spot on baseball player. A year ahead of me in the line ups, I would watch as we boys were registering for Highland Park Little League baseball.. wondering which team might be interested in me. I saw teams reunite like family. Rick was right in there. Those teams usually played with the tempo of family.. knowing every move. And they won.
Then. The Yankees (our team) were up against Ricks team (White Sox?) We lost. Somehow I believe that it was as much about that family unit that favored the outcome. Watching his work on the field (shortstop?) I would have to believe he was as dedicated and committed to his family and friends, bringing the "Win."
I offer belated condolences to the family. Rick carried himself well, he was looked up to and his family certainly can be proud of that he was in their life.

Rick and I went to North High School together where we became friends. But at UNI, he and I were a part of a very special moment in two other people's lives, and I'll never forget it.
Rick and Denny were at the Student Union one night. My friend Judy and I came to the Union to hang out. Rick and I saw each other, said hi, and the guys invited us to play cards.
The rest, as people say, was history. Judy and Denny have now been happily married for over 50 years. And it's because Rick and I knew each other, were at the same place with our friends, and introduced them.
Rest in peace, Rick. We did a great thing that night so long ago!
