Obituary
Richard L. Wolfe, 88, of Columbia City, Indiana, passed away Monday, March 13, 2023 at Coventry Meadows in Fort Wayne. Born January 11, 1935 in Columbia City, he was the son of Walter Wolfe Sr. and Sylvia (Staples) Hursey.
Growing up in Whitley County, Richard graduated from Columbia City High School with the Class of 1954. He served in the U.S. Navy during the end of the Korean War and had been stationed in the Okinawa Islands in Japan. After being honorably discharged from the military, Richard married Suzanne (Runge) Wolfe on June 27, 1959. He began his work career driving cement trucks for Morsches for a brief time, then worked at Dana for 40 years. He retired to help care for his wife Suzanne who passed away on January 18, 2000. Richard was currently married to Phyllis (Vandeman) Wolfe.
Richard was quite witty, enjoyed joking around and being ornery. He may have been strong willed, but he loved his family, and he loved having a good time. He was an avid golfer and it would not be uncommon to see him play several times in day with friends. He enjoyed traveling, watching westerns and war movies, listening to music and in his own joking words "swimming with bow legged women". He also enjoyed watching sports, especially when it came to college football and basketball.
Other survivors include his daughter, Barbara (Robert) Starr; son, Michael (Deborah) Wolfe; step-children, Steve Reynolds, Christy Reynolds-Miller, Kate Reynolds and Marty Reynolds; grandchildren, Crystal Wolfe, Benjamin Wolfe, Michele (Roy) Southerland, Abigail (Alec) Carter, Ross Harvey, and Alexandria Wolfe; and great-granddaughters, Suzanne and Eleanor. Along with parents and first wife, Richard was preceded in death by his son, David Wolfe; daughter, Michele Ann Wolfe; sisters, Genny Keirn, Mary Targart, Phyllis Taylor and Barbara Lickey; and brothers, Walter Wolfe Jr. and Donald Wolfe.
In accordance to Richard's wishes, there will be no public service and he will be laid to rest beside his first wife at Eberhard Cemetery In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his memory to Parkview Home Health and Hospice. Donations may be mailed to DeMoney-Grimes Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Dr., Columbia City. Visit www.DeMoneyGrimes.com to send Richard's family online condolences or sign the online guest book.
