Lynne Ann Barry, 78, of Columbia City, passed away unexpectedly at home, becoming a star in the sky on Monday, February 17, 2025.
Lynne was born in Chicago, September 29, 1946, to Richard Barry and Helen (Creighton) Beatty. After moving to Columbia City, she attended West Ward and graduated from Columbia City Joint High School in 1964, later graduating from Ravenscroft Beauty School.
Nearly 25 years ago, Lynne purchased a home at Tri-Lakes with her son John, where she enjoyed cooking, catering, reading and listening to jazz. A consummate hostess, their home became a gathering place where friends and family were always welcome, especially for Fourth of July festivities.
Friends describe Lynne as resilient, industrious, generous, and creative, but most of all, master cook. For many years she catered wedding receptions and private parties while owning and operating Salads N' Stuff, Parties N' Stuff and Cafe California. All this while being a realtor with Orizon and working for a design firm in Fort Wayne and Indianapolis.
Lynne was a true woman of substance and will be remembered for her open heart, quick wit, intellectual curiosity, and her passion for social justice issues.
Surviving are her beloved son John; brothers Tom (Pam), Bob (Vicki), Martin and Kevin; seven nieces and nephews; and numerous extended family and friends. She also leaves behind sisters of the heart, Mary Johnson McManama and Brenda Myers.
There will be no immediate services, but a celebration of her life will take place at 2:00pm on July 5, 2025, at Johns home, rain or shine.
In accordance with Lynne's wishes, memorials may be given in memory of Lynne for her son Johns future needs; checks may be made payable to John Barry. Memorials may also be designated to Portside Pizza for the annual Fourth of July fireworks.
