It is with deep sorrow that we announce Richard Guy Wright Jr. 68, of Cleveland, Tennessee, passed away unexpectedly on January 18, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of family, friends, and cherished memories.
Born on September 27, 1957 in Fayetteville, NC, Rick lived a life filled with devotion to his family and a deep appreciation for the simple joys of the outdoors, especially fishing (or sleeping in the sun), Tennessee football, college basketball (rivalries), let's be honest all sports.
Rick loved his country and following his father's example joined the Air Force, serving 6 years in the Air National Guard. After military service he entered the telecommunication field and dedicated 44 years to Spectrum. He was admired and respected by his coworkers.
For 43 years he was the loving, supportive husband of Becky Wright, his steadfast partner and best friend. Together, they built a home filled with warmth, food (lots of food), and welcoming friendships.
A proud father to Eric Wright (Angie) and Josh Bedwell (Jess) both from Cleveland, whom he loved deeply. He found his greatest joy in being "papa Rick" to 9 grandchildren; Lilly, Gianna, Daniel, Avangeline, Elijah, Bea, Cailyn, Natalie and Abel. He's only regret was not spending more time with each of them, sharing stories and celebrating their accomplishments.
Rick will be remembered for his laid-back nature, sharp wit, and the way he made everyone feel welcome. His sudden passing leaves a void that can never be filled, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard Guy Wright Sr. and Margaret Ann Grinter and a brother David Matthew Wright. Surviving are his two sisters Deborah Wright Ayers (David) and Kimberly Wright both of NC who will greatly miss his mischievous quips and smile. A multitude of Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, Nephews, Cousins and friends will carry on his love of life.
A celebration of Rick's life will be held on Friday, January 23, 2026 at Companion Funeral and Cremation located at 2412 Georgetown Rd, NW Cleveland, TN, with visitation beginning at 6 pm. The service will immediately follow at 7pm.
2412 Georgetown Rd NW P.O. Box 5057, Cleveland, TN 37311
