Rickey L. Schmierbach, 68, of New Athens, IL born December 4, 1956, in Red Bud IL, passed away Thursday October 23, 2025, at his residence. He had worked as an electrician and dual craftsman. Rickey was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing and trapping.

Preceding him in death were his parents – Floyd and Delores "Dolly" (Rieso) Schmierbach, a sister – Jeanne Trotter and brother-in-law – Robert Hopfinger.

Surviving him are his loving wife – the former Sherry Stoops, whom he married on October 19, 2002, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in New Athens, IL, two sisters – Judy Hopfinger of Highland, IL and Sandy (Steve) Cummins of New Athens, two step-children – Joshua (Mequila) Cockrell of New Athens, IL and Julia (Brian) Spencer of St. Louis, MO, 6 grandchildren – Sam, Madi, Jalyn, Clare, Norah and Colin. He is also survived by nieces and nephews – Brad (Lori), Dawn (Kevin), Tonya (Ron), Aaron J. (Erin) and other great nieces, great nephews and other relatives and friends.

Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association or to Hospice of Southern Illinois.

In keeping with Rickey's wishes, cremation will take place with no public visitation or funeral times scheduled.

A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Heil-Schuessler Funeral Home in New Athens, IL is in charge of arrangements.
