Rickie Chenier Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Millet-Guidry Funeral Home - LaPlace on Mar. 11, 2026.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Rickie "Coon" Chenier on March 7, 2026, at his cherished home in the presence of his loving family. Born on April 21, 1954, in the vibrant city of New Orleans, Louisiana, Rickie lived a life that was as rich and flavorful as the Cajun culture he held dear.

Rickie was married to the love of his life, Jena Chenier, with whom he shared thirty-six wonderful years. Together, they created a home filled with laughter, love, and warmth. Their annual Cochon de Lait became a cherished tradition, bringing together family and friends to celebrate life's blessings, good food, and each other's company.

Rickie was the beloved son of the late Wilfred and Amy "Marie" Chenier, who instilled in him a love for the outdoors and a passion for life's simple pleasures. His sister, Joyce Murry, his in laws Helen and Joseph Leslie, and his best friend, Larry Madere, preceded him in death, leaving behind a tapestry of cherished memories.

Rickie's legacy is carried on by his family and friends that share many amazing memories. His loving sisters, Geri Weber (Roland) and Barbara Bourgeois (Nolan), and many nieces and nephews. His stepsons, Brandon and Billy Cook. His grandkids shared memories of hunting and fishing together. He will also be dearly missed by his long-time friend, Scott Duhe, with whom he shared countless adventures and stories - some that could never be repeated.

Rickie's professional life was marked by dedication and skill. He proudly worked as a heavy equipment operator for over forty years primarily with RTL-Norco, Brown & Root and Scioneaux, Inc. His expertise and unwavering commitment to his craft earned him widespread respect and admiration in his field.

A true outdoorsman, Rickie never missed the thrill of opening day, whether it was for hunting, fishing or shrimping. He spent endless days at his camp in the swamps of Ruddock. His vegetable garden was his pride and joy, and he was delighted in sharing his abundant harvest of tomatoes and cucumbers with friends and family alike. He treasured his days of racing cars and hanging out at the drag strip with his friends. Rickie's life was a testament to the simple pleasures of living, from piddling in his shop to savoring boiled seafood.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Carter Davis, Dr Colin Bailey, and St Charles Parish Infusion Center for the compassionate care they provided, ensuring Rickie's final year was filled with comfort and dignity.

A celebration of Rickie's life will be held on Friday March 13, 2026, at St. Joan of Arc Church, located at 529 W. 5th Street, Laplace. Visitation will take place from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm, followed by a Funeral Mass at noon. Interment will be at St John Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Family, friends, and all whose lives were touched by Rickie are invited to gather and honor the legacy of a man who lived life to the fullest and left an indelible mark on everyone he met.

Rickie "Coon" Chenier will forever be remembered for his generous spirit, his love of life, and the warmth he brought to all who knew him. His presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of those he left behind. May he rest in peace, surrounded by the beauty of the great outdoors he so dearly loved.
