Rickie Zelaya, 54, passed away on March 1, 2025. Originally from Honduras, Rickie built a beautiful life with the love of his life, Ibania, whom he met in 1997. By 1999, they were married, and together they raised four children-two boys and two girls-who were the pride of his life.
A hardworking man, Rickie dedicated his career as a tankerman at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard. He was a man of laughter, love, and resilience-someone who could brighten any room with his easygoing nature. Outside of work, his heart belonged to the water. Whether fresh or salt, if there was a place to cast a line, Rickie was there, fishing to the sound of reggae. Sometimes he'd catch and release, and sometimes he'd enjoy a meal straight from the day's work.
Above all, Rickie's greatest joy was his family. He adored his wife, his children, and especially his grandchildren, who brought him endless happiness. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Ibania Zelaya de Zelaya; his children, Mark Zelaya, Ricardo Zelaya, Maybellin Zelaya, and Sophia Zelaya; and his cherished grandchildren, Janeth and Mark.
