Ricky Duncan Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by O'Quinn-Peebles-Phillips Funeral Home & Crematory on Mar. 6, 2026.
Ricky Dale Duncan Jr., 16, passed away on March 4, 2026. He was born on August 17, 2009, and throughout his life he showed a strength, kindness, and spirit that deeply touched everyone who knew him.

Ricky was the beloved son of Rick Duncan and Brittany Yarbrough. He is also survived by his maternal grandmother, Tammy Messer Chambers and her husband Pat Chambers, and his paternal grandmother, Kathy Duncan. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Charles Duncan.

Ricky leaves behind a large and loving family of aunts, uncles, and cousins who adored him, and whom he loved dearly.

Ricky was a true fighter who faced illness for much of his life with remarkable courage and resilience. Despite the challenges he endured, he was known for his warm heart, positive outlook, and gentle spirit. He had a temperament that was steady and kind, and he never seemed to wake up in a bad mood. His joy and optimism were contagious and brought light to those around him.

He loved spending time outdoors, especially fishing. Fly fishing held a special place in his heart, and he enjoyed participating in outings and events with organizations that shared that passion. Ricky also loved visiting the beach, where he delighted in collecting seashells. He had a special interest in planting seeds and found great happiness in watching things grow.

Ricky cherished time with his cousins and loved playing video games and being surrounded by family. He was especially protective of both of his grandmothers and shared a deep bond with them.

Though his time here was far too short, Ricky's kindness, resilience, and joyful spirit left a lasting mark on everyone who knew him. His life was a blessing, and he will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

The family will receive friends from 1:30 PM until 2:30 PM on Sunday, March 8, 2026, at Union Church, 2212 Nursery Rd., Lillington, NC 27546. A memorial service will follow at 2:30 PM, with a graveside service immediately afterward.
