Ricky Wayne Shields, a devoted logger and a hardworking individual, passed away on February 15, 2025, in Batesville, Mississippi. Born on December 2, 1968, in Panola County, Mississippi, Ricky's life was defined by his dedication to his craft and his passion for family.
The family will celebrate Ricky's life Tuesday afternoon, February 18, 2025 at 2:00 P.M. in the Martin Willingham Memorial Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the interment to follow at Cold Springs Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends prior to the service beginning at 12:00 P.M.
A true testament to diligence, Ricky was known for his strong work ethic and commitment to excellence in the logging industry. His labor was not just a means of livelihood; it was a reflection of his character. Outside of work, he found joy in various hobbies, including mechanic work, hunting, fishing, and antique cars. However, nothing brought him more happiness than spending time with his beloved grandchildren, who were the light of his life.
Ricky leaves behind a loving family, including his wife, Natalie Polson Shields of Batesville, MS; sons, Jhonthan Shields of Courtland, MS, Hunter Shields of Vance, MS, and Anthony Shields of Twin Falls, ID. He is also survived by his sisters, Michelle Shields of Sardis, MS, Kathy Shields Melton of Batesville, MS, and Joyce Shields Brown of Sardis, MS, as well as his brothers Terry Shields of Courtland, MS, and Dennis Grant of Crowder, MS. Ricky's legacy continues through his grandchildren: Landin Shields, Hannah Shields, Bentley Shields, Hudson Shields, Phoenix Scruggs, Gabriel Scruggs, and Seth Scruggs.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Ilaree King Shields, and several siblings, including sisters Debbie Fletcher and Mary Ann Shields Kuehl, as well as brothers Leslie Allen "Frog" Shields, Harvey Shields, Anthony Shields, Ardis Shields, JC Shields, James Robert Shields, Thomas Grant, and Wayne Grant.
